In the "Harry Potter" series: John Lithgow confirms his role as Dumbledore

The first big name for the "Harry Potter" series seems to have been decided: John Lithgow confirms that he will play Headmaster Dumbledore.
Did veteran star John Lithgow (79) let something slip out of sheer excitement? The search for the Dumbledore actor for the series about "Harry Potter" produced by Warner Bros. Television and HBO is apparently over. In an interview with the US website "Screen Rant" , Lithgow revealed that the previously circulating rumors were true and that he had already agreed to play the head of the Hogwarts School of Magic.
According to the report, he received the call from the producers during the Sundance Film Festival, which took place from January 23 to February 2. The request was "a total surprise for me," the "Hinterm Mond gleich links" star is quoted as saying.
A far-reaching commitmentApparently, however, he initially had reservations about the huge commitment that a role in the extensive "Harry Potter" series would mean for him: "It was not an easy decision because I fear it will shape me for the entire last chapter of my life. But I am very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter," said the mime.
According to reports, the "Harry Potter" series is being conceived as a ten-year mammoth project that will retell the entire book series by JK Rowling (59). This alone made him hesitate to accept the offer, Lithgow reveals: "That's why it was such a difficult decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the closing party. But I said yes," he finally let slip the confirmation. HBO, meanwhile, continues to say that they will "only confirm details once we have signed the contracts."

There are currently rumors about other well-known stars. "Oppenheimer" star Cillian Murphy (48) is said to be in talks to play Lord Voldemort. Not only the fans expressed their enthusiasm, Ralph Fiennes (62), who played the evil wizard in the "Harry Potter" films, is also enthusiastic about the idea. "Cillian is a fantastic actor. That's a wonderful suggestion. I would be completely for Cillian. Yes," said Fiennes in an interview .
According to a report by "The Hollywood Reporter", Paapa Essiedu (34) is also the favorite for the role of Severus Snape, the strict potions master of Hogwarts, once so memorably portrayed by Alan Rickman (1946-2016).
